Drinking, made simpler

Ignite Bistro & Bar in Balestier has quietly closed for good

Less than a year after opening in One Dusun Residences, Ignite Bistro & Bar has closed down.

The place had been on our list for a few months by the time we got to making a reservation there. Our booking via Chope went through without a hitch, though we soon noticed an ominous “Temporarily closed” label on its Google location profile.

Messages to Ignite’s WhatsApp account went unanswered, and further messages to its Instagram account have yet to be opened.

When we showed up at the time of our reservation, the place was closed. The usual “For rent” labels and property agents’ contact details were plastered across the doors and windows.

Ignite opened sometime in the middle of 2025, promising “Chinese-inspired small plates [and] a cocktail wizard”, going by the very first post on its Instagram account.

It received the usual bit of attention from bloggers and influencers, though that apparently hasn’t helped it stay afloat in a tough environment. Ministry of Law data shows there were 3,074 closures in the F&B services sector in 2025.

Just a few doors down from Ignite, staff at Cavemen Social tell us that the steakhouse-wine bar concept recently gave up part of its floor space.
